How to design and deliver sessions on Interculturalism and Inclusion (2 day course)

This two-day course is designed to explore the theory and methodologies required to address interculturalism an ind inclusion in a youth work setting. On day one the course follows the structure of the ‘Intercultural Awareness and Cultural Competency’ training day. On the second day participants will develop practical skills to engage with young people and volunteers in a culturally diverse setting, as well as planning and delivering their own session on Interculturalism and inclusion

  

Learning content:

The session will help participants:

  • Understand and reflect on their own culture;
  • Look at culture and minority experiences and how they affect communication, relationships and youth work;
  • Develop the skills to work more effectively with diverse groups of young people and volunteers;
  • Challenge myths about diversity;
  • Explain the meaning of interculturalism vs multiculturalism, and understand the youth leader's role in promoting and ensuring inclusive youth work environments;
  • Plan for and present a taster session on interculturalism and inclusion for a youth group;
  • Devise a programme of activities on the topic of cultural diversity and awareness for youth groups.

 

Duration: 2days

Course fee: €100 per person or €800 per organisation

Designed for: Individuals who engage with young people in out of school settings

Numbers: The minimum number of participants that is required to run this course successfully is 10 and the maximum 25.

Available by request by organisations or on demand if enough individual youth workers put in a request for a training to be scheduled
