Tackling Racism, Homobhobia and Sexism

This course is designed to introduce participants to the theory of racism, sexism and homophobia. It will focus on understanding stereotypes and prejudices, different types of discrimination and how to identify and tackle incidents. It will give participants skills and resources for doing anti-discrimination activities in youth work settings and introduce practical strategies for managing conflict.

 Learning content

  • Understand racism, homophobia and sexism.
  • Understanding our own attitudes and bias
  • Terminology and issues explained – including research findings
  • Help young people to reflect on and understand the source of their attitudes and prejudices.
  • Develop strategies for tackling racism, homophobia and sexism in youth work settings.
  • Challenging myths and language that are discriminatory or bullying.
  • How to support young people coming out,
  • How to support people suffering from racism, homophobia and sexism
  • How to make your youth service/ centre safe for minority young people (policies, procedures, programmes & physical environment)

 

Duration: 1 day

Course fee: €50 per person or €400 per organisation

Designed for: Individuals who engage with young people in out of school settings

Numbers: The minimum number of participants that is required to run this course successfully is 10 and the maximum 25.

Available by request by organisations or on demand if enough individual youth workers put in a request for a training to be scheduled
